Ordering and delivery

Measure the length and width of your lawn area in metres and multiply them together. Our turf calculator handles rectangles, circles and triangles, and will price the job for you. Add around 5% to your total to allow for cutting, shaping and mismeasurement.

Preparing the ground

Clear the site of stones, weeds and old turf, and make sure it drains. Rotovate or dig to 10cm to 12cm. Break down lumps, then firm and level by treading or light rolling, and rake. Repeat until the surface is level, smooth and evenly consolidated but not compacted.

Laying

As soon as you practically can. Turf is alive and starts to deteriorate on the pallet, and in warm weather the window for standard turf can be as short as 12 hours.

We chill ours, which changes the maths. When turf is harvested in warmer weather it goes straight into a vacuum chiller that brings the core temperature down to 3°C, and that adds at least 24 hours to its shelf life. We do not charge extra for it. Chilling does not make turf indestructible, but it does turn a 12 hour window into a 36 hour one, which is usually the difference between laying across two days from one delivery and losing a pallet.

Aftercare

Water thoroughly immediately after laying, then regularly, especially in dry spells. Do not let new turf dry out and do not let cracks open between the turves.

Choosing the right turf

Rysport for a hard-wearing conventional lawn. Clover Plus for a grass and clover lawn with a softer, more relaxed look. Floral Lawn® for a flowering lawn with buttercups, daisies and low-growing wildflowers. Species Rich Turf for a wildflower meadow lawn with the widest range of native species and the strongest biodiversity value.

All our turf is grown to the highest possible ecological standards. At Grasslands, we are PROUDLY PLASTIC FREE.

Our turf is matured over a longer period without the use of environmentally harmful plastic webbing, unlike many growers. Our wildflower range is field-grown, eliminating the need for acres of single-use plastic as a separation layer.
